Chlorine, Cl2, is a greenish-yellow, highly toxic, poisonous, corrosive, oxidizing, liquified gas with a pungent, irritating odour.
Pure chlorine is used:
- in semiconductor fabrication: plasma etching of aluminum and other metal layers
- in the chlorination of various organic chemicals.
