Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) consists in diluting/eliminating the air inside the packaging and substituting it with a gas or gas mixture, with the aim of prolonging the shelf-life of the product.
Gases and gas mixtures are used as natural food additives, instead of chemical ones, to reduce microbial growth and to delay deterioration and enzymatic and biochemical degradation.
SIAD has developed Foodline®, a line of gases and mixtures capable of meeting any packaging requirement. Foodline consists of gases for use in foodstuffs (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and argon) which are supplied in pressurised containers, solely for the food and beverage market, and equipped with anti-pollution devices which guarantee product quality and compliance with the appropriate regulations.
It is also important to specify that SIAD produces in compliance with HACCP regulations which require the traceability of products in accordance with regulation 852/2004 of the European Parliament relating to food hygiene.
On the whole, the addition of the appropriate gas mixture noticeably delays degradation, improves the aroma, freshness and nutritional content of the foods, and, at the same time, reduces transport costs.
