Oxyfuel cutting header
Is the metal cutting process which uses heat energy produced by a combustion flame fuelled by combustible gases and gases containing combustive agents and the chemical oxidation reaction, at high temperatures, between the same combustive agent containing gases and the metal to be cut.
Formation of the oxide requires large quantities of oxygen which is introduced, into the cutting area, at a programmed and carefully controlled pressure. This chemical reaction determines the ease of cutting, or not, of a metal.
Oxyfuel cutting is principally used on carbon steels and on alloys with a low melting point .These materials can be economically cut with manual or automated equipment.
Materials of a thickness between 1 and 100 mm can be manually cut, whilst greater thicknesses require an automated system using one or multiple torches.
Oxyfuel cutting is used less nowadays than in the past but still has an exclusive niche for some materials and thicknesses used in different sectors:
Oxygen purity is a key factor in obtaining good performance in terms of speed of cut and quality pertaining to squaring off and surface finish. The combustible gas chosen influences the cutting process and, particularly, the quality, warm-up and melt time and the thickness of the material which can be cut with good results.
