Barcolana Classic Trofeo SIAD
Preceded by a parade-of-sail in Bacino San Giusto, the regatta, whose organization relies on the technical contribution of Yacht Club Adriaco, brings sailing history to Barcolana with a focus on the vessels of yesteryear, subdivided into the categories of vintage, classic, traditional local "passere", Sciarelli and spirit-of-tradition boats.
There are two prizes for the event: the first is the SIAD Trophy, which goes to the boat that best interprets the spirit, restoration and love for classic sailing craft, awarded this year to Annie (Austria) by the panel of experts in recognition of an exceptionally well-crafted restoration job.
The second special prize, assigned for the first time at the Barcolana Classic, is the "Budinich100" celebration plate, which was won by the sixteenth boat to cross the finish line in celebration of the centenary from the birth of Paolo Budinich, Yacht Club Adriaco member and skipper and also theoretical physicist of international renown and one of the founders of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste.
The Barcolana Classic fleet of almost 100 vessels at the start line completed two laps of a course lying in the most beautiful area of the Gulf of Trieste, between the Victory Lighthouse in Barcola and Miramare Castle: a spectacle within a spectacle that underscores the elegance and fascination of the Barcolana Classic.
A north-east wind of around 8 knots allowed even the smaller boats to achieve a brisk pace and complete the course with tacks and crossings, some of which fiercely contested.
