Asst Papa Giovanni XXIII Biobank inauguration ceremony
SIAD president Roberto Sestini, the managing director Bernardo Sestini and Oscar Rizzi, SIAD Healthcare managing director took part in the inauguration ceremony of the biobank at Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital. Among the other participants, there was Marialuisa Lavitrano, president of BBMRI - Biobanking and BioMolecular Resources Research Infrastructure of Italy.
The Biobank is a sort of large archive or repository in which, thanks to sophisticated equipment, human biological samples such as biological liquids (blood, saliva, urine, cells), nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and tissues are collected, classified and stored. About 135,000 aliquots of biological samples are currently stored in Biobank.
The realization of the Biobank has been possible thanks to SIAD, historical partner of Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital, that realised the entire ‘turnkey’ structure thanks to the latest technologies available on the market and with high technical index and innovation equipment. SIAD made significant investments in cryopreservation research, which led to the creation of a new system of intelligent management of cryobanks, called CryoAbility. To date, more than 100,000 umbilical cords and 2,000,000 biological samples are stored in cryobanks made by SIAD.
