Normal Butane, C4H10, is a colourless, odourless, flammable, narcotic, liquified gas.
Pure butane is used:
- in atomic absorption for elemental analysis as an instrumentation gas
- for instrumentation in the petrochemical industry
- in optical spectrometry as an instrumentation gas
- as a component in calibration gas mixtures for environmental monitoring systems and industrial hygiene gas mixtures
- as a propellant
- as a solvent.
