Shaking and chemical homogenization

Thanks to its particular property of chemical inertia towards metals, argon is used in mixing operations, chemical homogenization and the separation of light materials (such as dross) from molten metals. Introduced through porous bricks or probes, it is used in arc furnaces during the melting of steel and in ladles of molten cast iron, steel and non-ferrous metals to accelerate the dissolution and homogenization of alloying elements added to the ladle itself.
