Bioremediation of aquifers
SIAD’s remediation technologies act directly on the groundwater, without pumping out the water. Dissolved oxygen and reducing gases stimulate the biodegradation of organic contamination by indigenous microorganisms.
The action of the gases also removes inorganic contaminants, such as dissolved metals, through the oxidation and precipitation of iron, arsenic and manganese, or the reduction of hexavalent chromium.

SIAD combines its micro-injection technologies with the expertise of its Environmental Biology and Chemistry Laboratory, from feasibility assessments through to the installation and operation of the systems, right through to data analysis and verification of the effectiveness of site-specific remediation.
With GROUND BIO2®, pure oxygen is micro-injected directly into the aquifer, where it stimulates the aerobic biodegradation of organic contamination by indigenous microorganisms. This increases the dissolved oxygen in the aquifer without causing the contaminants to volatilise, using a compact system with low electricity consumption.
When the aquifer requires reducing conditions, GROUND ReD comes into play: reducing gases dissolved in water that promote anaerobic biodegradation and the chemical removal of inorganic contaminants, such as the reduction of hexavalent chromium. An eco-sustainable alternative for the most complex sites.
For the most stubborn organic contaminants, GROUND O3+® delivers ozone directly into the groundwater for chemical oxidation. It rapidly degrades a wide range of recalcitrant substances, increases the biodegradable fraction and facilitates the subsequent bioremediation phase, with evidence of its effectiveness even in the unsaturated zone.
To ensure interventions are correctly scaled, SIAD uses noble gases as tracers to determine the range of influence of its technologies. GroundMix combines pure oxygen or reducing gases with noble gases for the saturated zone, whilst GroundSpy uses noble gases for the unsaturated zone.
